Review for Gion apartment 1W

This customer stay at Gion apartment 1 from Nov.24th to Dec.8th.
He send us some remark .

Gion apartment 1W

Thank you for bringing the bed linen; it was really important for a

two-week stay. At that time of year it was difficult for washing to dry,

so spare towels would also have been useful, but we coped. The kitchen

light was annoying, but we coped and the heating was adequate for our

stay. The iron you kindly supplied did not work and my friend at first

thought it was a child's toy!

Without knowing your regular clients (Japanese or non-Japanese?) it is

difficult to make further comments, but if I could add a few suggestions

for what would have made our stay even better?

1. Bedside lights (電気スタンド) would be good.

2. Extra cutlery & plates.

3. Some more recycling bags? Some days the recycling was taken away too

early for us - even though we put things out within the time limit...

4. Dust-pan and brush for simple cleaning.

5. A small mop to wipe the floors.

Although it is for an advertisement but finding beautifully decorated bus and riding them also pleasant.
This is the design was the very best one carried out for the national cultural festival.
The drawn character named Mayumaro, shaped cocoon,not a boiled egg.
Probably, there are also many opportunities to see it when you come to Kyoto.

Gion kobu kaburenjo theater

On last Friday,I have visited Gion Kobu Kaburenjo theater to see traditional Japnese music and dancing. It is first time for me to go to there. The theater builed in 1873 and it famus Miyako-odori ,Cherry blossom dance in April. I enjoyed JORURI,story telling like singing,SANGYOKU,performance syamisen,koto and syakuhachi. Most inpressive is a traditional Kyoto dance ,KYO- MAI dance. The song and performance by the geisha girls The forcible dance by the head of the Kyo-mai dance school. It is very valuable to see beautiful dance and music in nice theatre. Gion odori (Dances performed by Maiko and Geiko) is held from November 1 to the 10th.

Kyoto city trasportation bureau has a valuable campaign in Summer.
Between July.18th to Aug.31st,two children less than 12years old become free by a fare one adult. Also,there is no limitation in an adult ticket.

It is only said to the driver, "Eco-summer" when you getting off.

Please say it like Japanese,should not be a good pronunciation.

Shine visit by Chigo child of Naginata-boko

On today ,July.13th Chigo child of Naginata-boko visited Yasaka shine for invocation of successful Gion matsuri.The chigo child become same as a Japanese feudal load from today. He becomes impossible to apply the foot to ground until July.17th,too.
He rides on the horse or onto powerfully shouldered. He will manage some providential function as a holy child.
We appreciate their hard work under a sultry sun.

One of the purposes of the Japanese travelers is to eat the delicious one,even if it is a limited sale.

Gyojya-mochi is sold only on the day of Yoiyama,on July.16th.
It puts Japanese pepper with rice cake in white miso .

It is the ritual on June.30th.Parishioners gathered and environ with fire.

Afterwards,this earthquake, the tsunami, and the accident of the nuclear power plant still makes serious damage for fellow citizen.

Funaoka onsen,wonderful public bath

Sometime,the foreigner who ride on bike ask me to direction to Funaoka onsen.
The funaoka onsen is located on Kuramaguchi-dori between Horikawa and Senbon.
It is a public bath being specified for the cultural asset.
Everyone will be surprised at the beautiful detailed making.
It is a bath enjoys atmosphere more than hot water.

We eats this lovely sweets on June.30th ,every year.
It is the day, half of one year passes.
We give thanks for the safety during half a year and wishing welfare for the rest .
White foundation means ice, and red beans means charm evil.

Gion Matsuri festival is getting close!

The most biggest events in Summer,Gion matsuri festival has starts on July.1st ,next Friday.It continues fully in July.The main event is parading of floats on 17th.
I just worry about power saving at the night.Scenery where every lights up in the lantern is so beautiful .

Recently I stayed at one of Japan Stay's apartment in Kyoto.
I enjoyed staying at their apartments as it makes me feel at home.
The place is clean and basic amenities such as kitchen utensils are provided.

The apartments are well-managed and the costomer service is excellent.
Customer inquiries are always handled promptly and they have good English-speaking staff.

On Feb.3rd is called Setsubun in Japan.It is a day before the first day of spring by our old calender. Almost Japanese scatter parched beans to drive out bad luck.In Kansai area,we eat a thick sushi roll not cut. There is some rules to eat it. While eating it face to good direction on this year and never talking until finished. I order it to delivery service to my home and eat it silently with some wish.Good direction of this year is South-south-east. I hope you have a lovely year ♪

New rice season.

A young Japanese does'nt eat rice so much but bread and noodles.
New rice season is too good to miss.
It is easy and no failure when cooking it with the rice cooker.
For new rice,it is a point to make it few water then usual.

All of our apartment has a rice cooker .
Please try to eat rice when you staying in Japan anyway.

Yesterday,I ate at one of those sushi places where the sushi drifts by on a sort of conveyor.

It is Japanese fast-food and reasonable.

There is no Japanese who talking with a little amount dishes.

Come to sushi-go-around when you starving.

Get out quickly when you finished.

We went toKamigamo jinja shrine for Hatsumode.The first shrine visit of the new year is called Hatsumode.We wish for good luck for our business ,happiness and healthy life in this year.

Then,we went to Imai shokudo restaurant that famous for fish boiled in broth.

After we finish eating,there is a long line of people waiting.

The shotoku syuzo has a female chief brewer:Toji.

The tour for learning to make sake and tasting available from Jan.11th to Feb.28th.

We went there on last Friday.They can provide thin ,flexible organic LED device for illumination.

Anyway,it makes us warmly for a spell. If possible to go there by walk not a car.

It is located in Shijo karasuma. It has noticeable exterior.This pattern is a traditional arabesque of a shop named Karacho from Edo period .There are a shop of the incense and the paper sliding door,movie theater,casual restaurants in the building.

We went to see colored leaves garden at Taizo-in in Myoshinji temple.

Taizo-in is the oldest and most famous sub-temples of the Myoshin-ji complex, and one of the few temples in Kyoto to offer real Zen culture to the international visitor. Here you can experience Zen meditation, tea ceremony and calligraphy with a friendly and dedicated staff.

This is a mechanism Clock at Nomura Shoken in Shijo street. It has performed for about three minutes every two hours between 9:00am to 19 :00pm. 1/9 of Naginata-boko froat models come out. It is a elaborate design with lovely dolls.

We went to Horumon Chiba at Kiyamachi.They serve good dinners at this shops.

Many tourists come to this shop with guide book.

It is thought to have originated from horumonyaki, a dish of grilled offal, invented by Korean immigrants in the Kansai area after the Second World War.

Japanese did not eat Beaf until 1868,but it become very populer food at present.

ホルモンちばは行列の出来るお店です。2680円でホルモンのコースが食べられます。お店の人が焼いてくれますので楽ちんです。お鍋が斜めになっていて、油がたれの小鉢にこぼれるようになっています。

最後にこのたれで、おうどんを焼いてくれます。美味しいことこの上なしです♪

We went to the organic cafe named Mumokuteki at Gokomachi.We ate a lunch plate with fully organic vegetables.The staff is doing farm work,too.Then they serve you with proud for their food.You can choose brown rice ,cereals rice and both rice in half.We choose half of both rice.It is very tasty!

Yasaka taxi is well-known for symbol mark of three-leaved clover.However, only four cars of 1400 taxi putting four-leaved clover. They say if you take the four-leaved mark taxi,it bring you good luck .Even if you find it,it maybe bring you little luck! If you fortunately catch and ride it,you can take a ride certificate but it in Japanese.

We wrote for Chimaki as a lucky charm of Gion Matsuri Festival.

We found Chimaki for Tukihoko in the garbage bags costumer's leave,yesterday.

You can ride and see the inside of the floats when you buy the Chimaki .

Then our customer bought it and do not bring it to their home ,but It is a charm for driving out evil spirit for us,though the ticket to ride.

I think the customer have to tell them for they just wants to visit the inside.

We can see the partial solar eclipse at many place in Japan,tomorrow.
Yakushima and Amami Oshima seem to be the best place to see the total solar eclipse but we can see part of it in Kyoto also.

Gion Matsuri on July.15th

We went to buy a good-luck charm named chimaki last night.Each floats sell their original chimaki.It is hand made by the person live in each block of the floats.We put it at the top of the entrance and defend for one year.

This is a photo of Tsuki-hoko,it comes from this ancient story, tsuki meaning 'moon'. At the top of the Shingi pole is a golden crescent, forty centimeters in width and twenty-four centimeters in length.

The grand Gion Matsuri festival season has come! Overflowed with many people around Shijo area. There are 32 kind of the floats around Shijo area and they showed great arts and crafts. It is muggy in daytime,almost people going to see in late afternoon.You can listen traditional melody by Musicians under the roof and see the floats with Japanese lantern lights.

This is the Kikusui-boko for symbol of success of business.

We visit Taizoin at Myoshinji temple. Myoshin-ji Temple consists of the minor 48 temple and Taizoin is one of it.It is well-known magnificent gardens,paintings, and Suikinkutu that the water drips makes sound like the sound of the Japanese harp. You can feel coolness at there.

There are many thousands of the group that plays Japanese drums.

We saw one of it at the front of the station.They came from Gifu prefecture,named Katagara Shofuku Daiko.They plays the Japanese flute and bells not only the drum, it was very cheerful sounds.

Japanese curry is one of the most popular dishes in Japan, where people eat it 62 times a year according to a survey.We eat it at house,cafe,restaurants,school lunch,boxed lunch and camp.

It is very convenience to use the curry seasoning.You can buy various taste of the seasoning at supermarket.It is included all spice ,some fruits and honey.

Sometimes the curry-rice is topped with breaded pork cutlet,it is my favorite one!.

We have curry noodle with Udon,Ramen or Soba and curry bread:deep fried battered bread with curry in the middle,too.

We never tired of it!!

Nagoshinohartae:The day of half closing of the year!

Today,June.30th we have special event for Nagoshinoharae in Kyoto.

It means clean up bad luck of Jan-June and invoke for fortune during July-Dec.
We went to Shine and pass though this big ring three times by traditional way.
After that we picked up one of this grass from this ring and bring it to our house for good luck.
We eat Japanese cake named Minatuki on today,too.
It put some small beans on the top of white triangle confection.
Minatuki is also a old name for June in Japanese.

Heiankyo Sousei-kan

We visited Kyoto city Heiankyo Sousei kan at Kyoto Asney.

It is the center of Heian period exploration. Heiankyo,the imperial capital of Japan was established in Kyoto at 794.We can see reconstruction model of Heian-kyo and the ceramic wall reproduction of Rakucyu Rakugai-zu for folding screen.Especially Rakuchu rakugai-zu painted by Kano Eitoku and it shows in remarkable details the daily life of people in Kyoto.

They are open 9:00am-17:00pm except Tuesday,free of charge.

We went to see the Bunraku performance at the Namkuraza theater in Eigamura.They usually performed traditional story ,but this time we saw newly story written by Ms.Setouchi Jakucyo.It is a beautiful love story Portuguese author with Japanese lady.The story is based on an actual person. The puppets was made based on his photograph, it is very true to life. It was touching performance,anyway!

Toei Movie Land:Kyoto Uzumasa Eigamura

Kyoto Uzumasa Eigamura is the theme park for being observe filming of period dramas.

We can freely walk around a film set and enjoy the atmosphere of old Japan.Also you can dressing up Samurai or Geisha and seeing Samurai acrobatic performance show .

Yesterday,this town fully in the people who had in disguise of the animated character like Akihabara. Modern samurais stand out too much in the old town.

If they having slipped at time to Edo priod,they will be killed by real samurai at once!

We occasionally find kindly message or unexpected gift in our room after the customer checked out.We found the lovely soap with the message,yesterday.The customer who had come from UK put them. These soaps smell wonderfully sweet. We share some with the colleague .

Sometimes,we get unhappy gift.It is unseparate rubbish without message.All of the gift is carried to the office. I think unhappy gift is a token of their grumble.They maybe can not understand how to throw .

To conclude,we always appreciate all of our customer and study from them everyday.

Noh play held in June at Heian jingu shrine.

Kongo style out door Noh play lit by firelight held in June.1st and June.2nd at Heian jingu shrine. It become an annual event in early summer.The bonfire is burnt against the background of the shrine in twilight.You can enjoy it with very emotional atmosphere .The outdoor Noh play is good for beginners.

We will recommend bring your own carrier bag when you shopping in a big supermarket in Kyoto. Practically supermarket decided to charge their carrier bag.It cost for only 5 yen/one.
However,it will be one of protect the environment from destruction.It is not good idea to change to garbage bags.

Kamogawa odori dance performance held in May.

After the first performance in 1872, the dance performance by the maiko in Ponto-cho has been succeeded exceeding the first century. The stage where the dance by choreography of the ballet of the Onoue style that originality excellent arts .It appears as if the moving picture scroll. Koinobori has swim in the sky~!

Koinobori meaning Carp-shaped streamer.It is a symbol for traditional celebrate for the children's day,especially boy.Landscapes across Japan are decorated with Koinobori from April to early May, in honor of sons and in the hope that they will grow up healthy and strong.These carp sets are flown above the roofs of houses with sons, with the biggest (black) koinobori for the father, next biggest (red) for the eldest son, and ranging down to the smallest carp for the youngest son.

Regrettably,there is no mother's and daughter's, but they seem to be having fun swimming.

Shichimi(seven flavor chili pepper) is a common Japanese spice

mixture containing seven ingredients,

Red pepper,Japanese pepper,Japanese basil,edible green seaweed,Sesame,Orange peel and Poppy seed.It was originally produced by herb dealers in Edo era.There are some specialized shops located in front of temples as Kiyomizu-dera temple. It is perfect for sprinkling on Udon ,Soba noodle and Gyudon:a bowl of rice topped with cooked beef!!!

Aoimatsuri festival is held in May

This festival dates back to the 7th century.It is an origin to have sent the messenger to Kamo shrine by the emperor for suppress the epidemic. Main part is celebrated on May 15th. The people who wear the costume at the Heian era parade from The Imperial Palace to Kamigamao shine via the Simogamo shine.There are a lot of points of seeing,personaly we recommend at Tadasunomori at Shimogamo shine.You can see it in the shade of tree of vergin forest.

We like to take the season in advance. Taking the season in advance is stylish life style in Japan.
The Japanese-style confection is connected to tea ceremony,so it is might particular about the season.Is it premature taste about summer when cherry blossoms end?
Anyway,the Japanese cake of summer has already appeared in the shop. This is a Chinese citron jelly pour in to the Chinese citron.It should be divided 4 or 8 for eating it easily.

It is a bad news for smoker.All of our apartment is become for No smoking.

Recently, it is hard situation for smokers in Japan.Almost stations are banned from smoking and the ashtray was removed. Kyoto city also prohibited the walking cigarette in downtown.

You should pay a 2000yen fine even if you litter it in the street.

Because our historical important temple or shrine is made of the tree and paper.

Of course, the place that it is able to smoke disappeared completely. There are a no-smoking zone and a smoking seat in most restaurants and cafes.

It's just become careful for a place where you may set fire the cigarette or are not .

Osaka River Cruise

My friends went out to see the cherry blossoms from the boat on Osaka river cruse .They got in at Osaka castle park and sailed down the three different river to Minatomachi pier.Osaka as famous as Water Capital city and it connected by many waterway or the river.The view from the river is the different scenery of the city for them.It seems to be framed with a delicate pink ribbon.

Dragon of the ceiling

Almost all of temple of Zen Buddhism has a dragon's picture in the ceiling .They say that the dragon is a god of water and assist the Budda in Japan .Then ,old Japanese put a magnificent Dragon in the celling of their temple for guardian.

When you looking up the dragon from the floor,the Dragon is looking at you ,also.It is a marvel that the Dragon stare at you where you are.

How to visit Moss garden temple,Koke dera.

The Saihoji temple is commonly known as The Moss garden temple or Kokedera temple.

It has a dry landscape garden and the garden covered with 20 kinds of moss.

We heard it is spontaneous moss after destroyed by fire during the battle in 1470 and it has since been rebuilt in Edo priod.

Until 1977, the temple was open to admission to the general public, but currently visitors are admitted only by prior application by return postcard.It is impossible from overseas.

We will act for our customer for application.

The fee to visit the temple (3000yen/person) is the highest in Kyoto,but it is really valuable.

Before being permitted access to the garden, visitors must hand-copying of sutra.

Your foot may be numbed,but it is approach the beautiful garden!

It is Mimurotoji temple in Uji city.It takes only 20 min train ride from Kyoto station.

In the garden, the azaleas come into full bloom in May, and the hydrangeas in June.

Uji city is famous as Byodoin temple as World Heritage site ,the high quality green tea and Tale of Genji.You can enjoy flowers and rich culture at there.

An Onsen: hot spring is a place to revitalize body and mind.

Kyoto has some hot spring at the suburb,Kurama onsen,Ohara onsen,Yonohana onsen and Arashiyama onsen.Almost of them has a day trip from Kyoto.

However, there is a rule in the place for relaxation. It is same as the public bath.

Take off all of your clothes and taking shower before into the spa .

Do not put your towel in the spa and never do not dive in the spa.

If nobody in the bath room,maybe you can swim just a little.

Many foreigners tend to soak for a long time,but it is not good for your b0dy taking a long bath.

Hot spring has an optimal period,it depends on each hot spring.

The most convenience way to go to various sightseeing spot is by bike.Because Kyoto is very compact city as other town in Japan.You can rent a bike at some place in Kyoto.Especialy,we recomend the shop named 'Karion' at near Demachiyanagi station.They are very friendly for every customer with reasonable price.The Japanese style bike is not cool,but it is functional one.It has basket at the front ,you can put and carry your stuff in it.It has a ring at the habdle,almost people offer thier way when you ringing the bell.The city bus and a taxi has get a traffic jam in downtown,the subway and the train can not go the exact spot.You can stop anywhere and pop in wherever you like when you ride the bike.It is really a valuable convenience to use the bike when you have got to get around.

"Mibu Kyogen" traditional comedic plays are held in April 21st to April 29th at the Dainembutsu-do of Mibu-dera Temple in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto. It is a pantomime semilar Noh-play.Programs such as the well-known' plate-smashing with simple deligthful sounds.The story of Mibu-kyogen explain Buddhism simply.

Enjoy the seasonal landscape-spring-time from the tram and the boat.

The open-air tram offers a pleasant, refreshing recreation ride.

It is a slight tour from Arashiyama to Kameoka about 23 minutes,but if you alight at the in-between stop at Hozukyo Station, you can enjoy a leisurely nature hike around the area.

To return to Arashiyama,you can take a cruise go down to Hozugawa river.

A skilled boatman manipulates with the rudder, the paddle, and pass through between the rocks. It about 2 hours ride.

Two festivals are held in Kyoto on October.22th.

One is Jidai matusri,people who wear very Japanese clothes in old period and parade from the Imperial palace to Heinan jingu shrine.

The other one is Kurama no Himatsuri,this is a very epic and dynamic festival.Kurama is on the highway that connects Kyoto

to Tanba area.

When the night comes,many bonfire and touch flared in the Kurama town .Especially at Yuki jinjya shire,most dynamic.

If you would like to see the passed time leisurely,go to around Heian jungu shrine.

If you would like to see flame at the night,get Eizan dentetsu railway within an early afternoon to Kurama.
